Congratulations Today
Today is a day of joy that the Lord has made, and I cannot help but rejoice. As I sit down to write these words, my heart is full—not only as your brother, but as the one privileged to stand beside you as your confirmation sponsor. Watching you grow in faith, hope, and love has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.
On this sacred day, as you prepare to enter the holy sacrament of Matrimony, I want you to know how deeply proud I am of the man you have become. You have given of yourself for others again and again, with eyes fixed only on God. In a world that so often measures worth by what it can take, you have chosen the quieter, harder path of self-gift. You have served without seeking recognition, loved without counting the cost, and trusted the Lord even when the road was unclear. That quiet fidelity has spoken more loudly than any words ever could.
I remember the day of your Confirmation as if it were yesterday. Standing there as your sponsor, I prayed that the Holy Spirit would seal in you the gifts you needed for the journey ahead. What a privilege it has been to watch those gifts unfold. Your faith has grown steady and unpretentious. Your hope has remained bright even in seasons of difficulty. And your love—charity in the truest sense—has been poured out for family, for friends, for the Church, and for those the world too easily overlooks. You have lived the theological virtues not as abstract ideals, but as a way of being.
To have been both your brother and your sponsor has meant walking with you through ordinary days and extraordinary ones. I have seen you choose the good when it cost you something. I have watched you turn toward Christ in prayer, in the sacraments, and in the quiet decisions and sacrifices that shape a life including your decision about your bed. Through it all, you have taught me more than you know about what it means to live for God alone.
Today you entrust yourself and your bride to the Lord in a covenant that mirrors Christ’s own love for the Church and Joseph's love for Mary—a love that is total, faithful, fruitful, and free. May the same Spirit who strengthened you at Confirmation now strengthen you both. May your home be a place of prayer, of mercy, and of joy. May you continue to give of yourselves without seeking return, trusting that God is the One who multiplies every offering placed in His hands.
I am grateful beyond words that God chose me not only to be your brother by blood, but to walk with you as a companion in faith. Thank you for letting me witness your growth. Thank you for the example of a life centered on Him.
As you and your bride begin this new chapter, know that my prayers go with you. May the Blessed Mother keep you close to her Son. May St. Joseph intercede for you as a husband and, God willing, as a father. And may the Sacred Heart of Jesus be the center of your home always.
I love you. I am proud of you. And I thank God for the gift of being your brother and your sponsor. You've taught me about love and our Lord just as much and more than I've ever taught you. Congratulations!!
